본 연구는 인간의 주관성을 과학적이고 체계적으로 측정할 수 있는 Q-방법론을 이용하여 불임부부들이 불임에 대해 형성하고 있는 주관성의 유형을 발견하고 유형별 특성을 분석하고자 시도되었으며 자료분석 결과 3개의 유형이 발견되었으며 각 유형별 특성은 다음과 같다. 유형 1은 부부의 연결고리 역할을 하는 자식을 가질 수 있다는 희망을 갖고 있으면서 임신하기 위해 끝까지 시도하고자 하는 지속적으로 노력하려는 모습을 보이고 있었다. 유형 2는 아이를 원하고 있기는 하지만 부부가 아이문제에만 집착하기보다는 자신의 삶을 중요시하면서 의미있게 보내려고 하며 자식은 낳은 정 보다 키우는 정을 더 중요하게 생각하여 불임의 대안으로 입양의 방법도 고려하면서 현실을 수용하려는 경향을 보이고 있었다. 유형 3은 부부만의 삶의 의미보다는 자녀가 있어 완전한 가정을 이루는 것을 더 추구하고 있었으며, 반면 여성으로서의 역할에 부담감을 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났으나 배우자가 밖에서 애를 낳아오는 것에 대해서는 강한 부정을 보여 혈연관계를 중요시하는 태도를 보였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 볼 때 세 유형에 속한 불임부부들은 공통적으로 불임에 대하여 스트레스를 경험하고 있으나 삶 전체를 불임과 관련지어 생각하고 있지는 않았으며 임신에 대한 희망을 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 통하여 세 유형의 특성을 감안한 개별화된 간호중재 방안 모색을 위한 연구가 시행되어야 할 것과 불임은 부부 공동의 경험이므로 불임에 대한 부부간의 태도일치 여부를 규명하는 추후 연구가 필요함을 제언하는 바이다.

Objective : This study was conducted to define the patterns of subjectivity of infertile family on infertility.
Method : Q-methodology was utilized for this study. Q-population (collection of concourse) consisted of 206 statements which were obtained from interview with infertile couples under treatment and normal men and women and review of literatures on infertility. Forty Q-samples were selected from 206 Q-population. The Q-samples were administered to 30 men and women who were residents of Seoul and in normal marital life but had no baby for more than one year. Analysis of Q-type obtained by QUANL program was done for 27 persons excluding 3 persons whose answers were inadequate.
Results : Three types of subjectivity on infertility were revealed. Type 1, continued effort, hopes to have a baby, considers the baby a connector of couple, and tries to be pregnant. Type 2, accepting the reality, does not stick to a baby, they can enjoy their lives without a baby and they seriously consider adoption with the belief that nurturing is more important than bearing a baby. Type 3, highly regarding kinship, believes that a baby make a perfect home, wives have a strong responsibility of giving a birth as woman’s role, but they are negative in having a half blood child, i.e. husband’s child. All 3 types experienced stress due to infertility.
Conclusion : Nursing intervention needs to be specifically designed to suit for each type of subjectivity of infertile couple. A further study is warranted to develop such intervention program.
